This week in the U.S. electoral vote, in Washington, D.C., and Oregon, voters chose to get on the path to decriminalize psilocybin for therapeutic use. This past August in Canada, four terminally ill cancer patients were given approval to use psilocybin as part of their end of life treatment.
Psilocybin is the main psychoactive ingredient in “magic mushrooms,” which, like LSD and MDMA, are known for their recreational uses, but to a growing number of researchers and physicians the therapeutic aspects of these drugs require further examination and study.
More and more companies are looking at ways to control and harness the mood-altering capabilities of these drugs, and similar to cannabis legalization, different jurisdictions are slowly opening their minds to experimenting with these drugs for medical uses.
