Six charged after Toronto police seize $2.3 million of marijuana in Scarborough

Six people are facing charges for allegedly possessing $2.3 million worth of marijuana, Toronto police say.

On Tuesday, 42 Division officers were responding to complaints made by Scarborough community members that a cannabis operation was present in the Markham Road and McNicoll Avenue area.

Police obtained a search warrant and searched an industrial unit in the area.

After conducting the search, officers say they located evidence of a marijuana distribution operation and seized more than 230 kilograms of cannabis, which is worth roughly $2.3 million on the street.

Kiu Chen, 33, of Milton; Wei Gao, 33, of Markham; Shuai Li, 33, of Whitby; and Hang Jiang, 27, Hao Liu, 32, Yun Ni, 33, all of Scarborough, are each charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of distributing.

 

They are all scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Oct. 8.
