Two arrested by North Battleford Gang Task Force appear in court


Two people arrested by the North Battleford RCMP Gang Task Force had more court appearances.

Shynia Skeavington, 24, of Mosquito First Nation, and Matthew Greer, 34, from Biggar, had appearances scheduled in North Battleford Provincial Court Oct. 5 for plea and the matters were adjourned.

Skeavington and Greer were two of four people arrested Sept. 2 after a traffic stop. The North Battleford Gang Task Force initiative a traffic stop on two vehicles after police noticed the occupants appeared to be interacting with one another in a parking lot on Railway Avenue, said Sgt. Adam Buckingham from the Battlefords General Investigation Section. Police didn’t specify what the interaction was but said one of the occupants was known to police and had an outstanding arrest warrant. The RCMP saw weapons in one vehicle and initiated arrests of those in both vehicles. The other two arrested were Rae Ahenakew, 40, of Mosquito First Nation and Desiree Hinse, 24, from Biggar. Police seized a firearm, Taser, cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana.

The four have appearances scheduled in North Battleford Provincial Court. Skeavington is set to appear Oct. 27 to enter a plea, Greer appears Nov. 2 to enter a plea, Ahenakew appears Oct. 26 for election and plea, and Hinse appears Oct. 19 to enter an election and plea, as well as sentencing on other matters.
