Agri-Food Forum to be held online this year

HURON COUNTY – The 2020 Agri-Food Forum will be held virtually for the first time since it’s inception in 2009, due to the current health crisis.

Traditionally the forum is a two-day event with bus tours and presentations but this year it will be two half-day virtual sessions and video tours of Huron County.

Experience Huron tasting packages will be available for purchase.

The forum’s underlying question asks, “what is your role in growing the agricultural sector?”

Topics for discussion on the first day include how ag exports can build a rural economy, direct marketing, and promoting ag in a COVID-19 world.

Day two will include how to inspire innovation in your municipality, Huron’s Ag prize story, rural capacity to respond to new and emerging agricultural issues.

A World Café conversation will be held covering food security, loss of the rural third space, building Municipal, Ag and Conservation Authority relationships, lot creation and severances in prime Ag areas, engaging youth in agriculture, cannabis as an agricultural product, and the agricultural workforce.

Highlights from Huron include:

– Panel featuring local exporters

– Local producer and agriculture business pivoting to e-commerce

– Vineyard and wine industry

– On-farm diversification with retail and manufacturing

– Huronview demo farm

– Agriculture prize

– Youth Attraction – Central Huron honey project & high skills majors
