A Mississauga pusatgame man and a 70-year-old American have been charged in the second wave of arrests in an OPP-led crackdown on contraband cigarettes and cannabis.
The arrests come less than two months after seven men from the Greater Toronto Area were hit with murder conspiracy charges in the police operation, called Project Cairnes.
Project Cairnes targeted the illegal manufacture and distribution Slot of contraband tobacco and cannabis on an industrial scale. In the June arrests, 16 men from Ontario, across Ontario, B.C., and Quebec across Canada were charged with 218 offences.
Police announced in June they seized 11.5 million contraband cigarettes, with an Ontario street value of $942,000 and 1,714 pounds of cannabis with an estimated street value of $2.5 million.
Police also announced the seizure of three handguns, ammunition, a cocaine press, 1.14 kilograms of cocaine, 10.2 kilograms of Piperidone, which is used in manufacturing drugs, 1.3 kilograms of fentanyl, $236,750 cash and seven vehicles.
Project Cairnes investigators announced on Tuesday the arrest of Kalipersad Goberdhan, 57 of Mississauga for manufacturing and packaging a tobacco product without a licence, violating the Trade Mark Act and participation in a criminal organization.
Also charged in the latest arrests was Paul Embury, 70, of Miami, Florida for conspiracy to unlawfully slot rujak bonanza manufacture a tobacco product without a license.
